GMIT Students’ Union Website
The Students’ Union is a democratic organisation run by students, for students. We have full autonomy from GMIT, so are completely independent from the college. We are here for you!
The Project.
In early June the new GMIT Students’ Union team took up office with their aims placed firmly on growing the online footprint of the organisation. One of the first big projects they had in mind required our web design services. The idea behind this was to support the needs of their members from Galway and beyond as they faced the prospect of studying from home. The website was to act as an information hub for both new and existing students. With the recent completion of an online accommodation portal, this was to also be included in any new web design.
The Challenge.
As students were now studying from home, one of the biggest challenges facing the Students’ Union was how best they could communicate with their members. The website was part of an overall strategy geared towards giving these students a platform to contact their representatives when they need them most. The new web design needed to encompass a wide variety of information on the many services that they provide whilst also keeping the attention of it’s users.
The Outcome.
We created an easy to use website which was extremely user friendly and offered an extra tool for the client to effectively communicate with their members. One of the most popular features of the website is a prominent Live Chat feature which allows students to instantly get in touch with the SU members at specific times which are advertised through their social media accounts. We also added the newly established Accommodation platform to the website which brought a high volume of traffic towards the other pages .
